From Curious to Confident: How Harriet’s Dyslexia Project Sparked a Big Opportunity

How Might Having Dyslexia Impact Someone’s Life?

.....Harriet’s Story and How Your Child Could Benefit Too
When Harriet first came to The Dyslexia Centre North West for an assessment, she wasn’t just looking for answers. She was looking for understanding.
Like many children who learn they have dyslexia, Harriet was full of questions. She was curious about her own learning profile, her strengths, challenges, and how her brain works. But she didn’t stop there. Harriet wanted to understand how dyslexia affects others too.
And that’s exactly what inspired her recent school project:

“How might having dyslexia impact someone’s life?”
It was a thoughtful, compassionate piece of work. It explored not just the hurdles that come with dyslexia but also the unique strengths it can bring: resilience, creativity, problem-solving, and a different way of seeing the world.

Harriet recently presented her findings at school, sharing her insights with classmates and helping others see dyslexia in a more positive light. While I didn’t get to see her speak in person, I’ve heard how confidently she approached the project and how much impact her words had.

Her work was so impressive, she’s now going to apply for a Research Project Award through the Dyslexia & Dyscalculia Academy, which is just one of the many opportunities available to children of parent members.

What Are the Research Project Awards?
The Research Project Awards give children the chance to dive deeper into a topic that matters to them, just like Harriet did, and gain recognition for their effort and insight. It’s not about grades or perfection. It’s about celebrating curiosity, creativity, and the confidence to explore neurodiversity in their own way.

These awards are exclusive to children of parent members at the Dyslexia & Dyscalculia Academy. Right now, we’re offering a special bursary place, which means you can join the academy for just £1.
