I meant to post about it earlier, but honestly, I needed time to sit with it. Watching it really got to me. I didn’t realise how raw it still is for me.
Jamie’s story hit home, but what really brought the lump to my throat was hearing the children speak. They talked about their struggles in school and how it made them feel. Words like "stupid," "frustrated," "not good enough" , and it just brought everything flooding back.
It took me right back to the early days with my daughter, Alice, who’s now 18. I remember trying to get people to see what I could see. To listen. To understand that it wasn’t laziness or lack of effort. It was dyslexia. Those early years were tough. But they were also the reason I started down this path.
It wasn’t just about helping Alice. I realised that so many teachers and tutors genuinely wanted to help their students but didn’t feel confident or trained enough to know where to start. That stuck with me.
And that’s really where the idea for our Level 4 Certificate in Dyslexia Awareness, Comprehensive Screening and Targeted Intervention came from. I wanted to create something that gave people the tools I wish I’d had back then, both as a parent and as an educator.
Jamie’s now calling for some big changes
